About Judith Lifson

Born in New York, Judith Lifson moved to Dallas, Texas when she was 6 years old. Married to her husband, Kalman “Kal” A. Lifson for 40 years, they've been blessed with 5 grown kids and 9 grandchildren.

Judith and Kal moved to Turtle Creek in 1982 and have lived in the same residence ever since. Judith is currently a realtor with Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate.

TCA team member, Charis Smith had an opportunity to learn more about Judith and TCA's history during a recent phone call.

1) Who started Turtle Creek Association? Concerned residents living in the area back in 1985.

2) What made you all want to start the Turtle Creek Association? Lifson and others living along Turtle Creek wanted to form an organization that would keep the park and the Turtle Creek corridor clean and safe. "Unfortunately, the city just wasn't doing a very good job of maintaining it's front yard and something had to be done."

3) What was the vision for the Turtle Creek Association? "We really wanted residents to get involved to help protect and preserve this beautiful urban oasis for future generations to come."

4) Has TCA lived up to the original vision? "Yes, and I'm definitely recognizing a renewed energy and so appreciative of it. I still wish more residents would get involved with helping care for this beautiful area."

5) What is one of your favorite things to do? “I really enjoy being involved in the community through my contributions as a board member of the Oak Lawn Committee, the American Jewish Committee, & on the Advisory Council of Earth X - Environment Films." In 1980, Judith spearheaded a local group of women investors to obtain a national bank charter serving as organizing chairman of the Board of Directors. In addition, 25 years ago, Judith started a women’s only investment club, while also joining a book club that she's still active in today.

FUN FACTS:

Ms. Lifson and her late husband, “Kal”, loved traveling. Kal was a member

of the “Young Presidents Organization”, which afforded them an opportunity to see the world.

Mrs. Lifson loved to play golf and tennis and shared an interesting story that occurred at the Dallas Country Club. Back in the 70's DCC did not allow Blacks or Jews to be members. As a member of the Jewish community Judith was invited as a guest to participate in a DCC tennis tournament. At the end of that tournament Judith and her mix doubles partner, also Jewish, ended up winning the tournament.

"Come on Down Judith Lifson" are the words Judith heard while attending the filming of the syndicated TV Game Show "The Price is Right". She knew her prices and how to the play the game winning an all expense paid trip to Europe. She said it was one of the most amusing times of her life!
