  • Northwest corner of Turtle Creek Blvd & Bowen St

Damage: Severe erosion and loss of approximately 200 feet of bank. Trail/overlook destroyed & replaced with temporary asphalt trail. Trail undermined at the Bowen Street Bridge.

Improvement: Turtle Creek & Bowen: Reinforced concrete wall with Millsap Stone fascia and Leuders Limestone Cap on top of wall. Replacement of trail/overlook.
Trail under Bowen Bridge: Reinforced concrete wall with Millsap Stone fascia & Leuders Limestone Cap on top of wall adjacent to trail.

  • Trail under Maple Ave Bridge

Damage: Both sides of the trail under the bridge have been undermined.

Improvement: Gabion basket placed under both sides of trail & voids under the trail filled with grout. Install a 6’ wide Gabion mattress in the bottom of creek along the basket to protect it from undermining.

  • Fairmont St

Damage: Erosion along both sides of the flume, end section of flume broken and sunken into creek and erosion at the outfall to the creek.

Improvement: Grouted Rock Rip-Rap (large stones set in grout) along sides of flume, removal of damaged section of flume, replace end section of flume with Gabion mattress, and gabion mattress in erosion location in creek.

  • Trail under Fairmont St Bridge

Damage: The south side of the trail under the bridge has been undermined.

Improvement: Gabion basket placed under side of trail & voids under trail filled with grout. Install a 6’ wide Gabion mattress in the bottom of creek along the basket to protect it from undermining.

  • Trail under Cedar Springs Bridge

Damage: The south side of the trail under the bridge has been undermined including under the steps both sides of the bridge.

Improvement: Reinforced concrete wall with Millsap Stone fascia & Leuders Limestone Cap on top of wall adjacent to trail. Extension of storm drain pipe to creek.

  • Creek Bank West Side of Hall St Bridge

Damage: Failure of existing creek bank slope protection made out of stacked concrete bags.

Questions

  • When will each area be addressed?

The City of Dallas unless otherwise specified in the contract documents allows the Contractor to establish the means & methods of construction. This project has improvement sites from Maple Ave to Lemmon Ave. At present the Contractor plans to work on 2 to 3 sites at once, and complete the entire project within 4 to 5 months as weather allows. The contract time allows for 160 working days which provides for an 8 month time of completion.
The Contractor plans to have approximately 3 staging areas. The exact locations have not been established, but will have to be approved by the Park and Recreation Department before the start of construction. The Contractor is required to protect any
trees and/or landscaping within the limits of the staging area and the immediate surrounding areas. After construction is complete the staging areas will be restored to better than or equal to original condition & grassed. Any damage to irrigation, sidewalks, curb & gutter, etc must be repaired.
  • Extent to which the creek will be drained?

The majority of the construction sites will only require a temporary floating boom or rock  berm to contain any silt disturbed by the construction activity. This action is part of the “Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan” to prevent silt from entering the flow of water in the creek.
If needed the Contractor will construct temporary coffer dams in the immediate work area to drain the area. The coffer dams will be surrounded by the floating boom or rock berm to contain any silt.
The only area that will require draining will be for the work at the Lemmon Ave Bridges. The Contractor will drain the Hall Street Pond over the dam down to a sufficient depth to
    perform his work.
