Turtle Creek’s mission…

The Turtle Creek Association is dedicated to protecting, preserving, and enhancing Turtle Creek, a vital environmental asset to the Dallas area. Turtle Creek is more than just a neighborhood feature; it's a crucial component of the city’s stormwater management, air quality, and climate resilience.

Our work extends beyond local boundaries, impacting the overall health and sustainability of Dallas. With a comprehensive masterplan in place, we're poised to implement significant environmental improvements. However, achieving these goals requires community support.

Meet Toby The Turtle

Toby the Turtle stands as the distinguished symbol of the Turtle Creek Association, emblematic of our commitment to the preservation, protection, and enhancement of Turtle Creek. Originally an unnamed mascot, Toby was christened by the daughter of J.D. Trueblood, President and CEO of the Turtle Creek Association, marking a new chapter in our organization’s story.

As the central figure of our logo, Toby not only represents our efforts but also personifies the spirit of community and conservation. In his honor, we have instituted the "Toby’s Scavenger Hunt," an engaging and educational experience designed to deepen public understanding of the creek’s vital role in our ecosystem.

Toby has evolved from a mere mascot to embody the core values and mission of the Turtle Creek Association, fostering a sense of unity and kinship among our members and the broader community. Through Toby, we extend a warm invitation to all to join us in not only preserving a natural treasure but also in cultivating a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Built to Last: Circa 1908

Of all eight bridges in our initiative, Hall Street is the oldest, dating back to around 1908. I came across a Dallas Morning News article dated January 1, 1910, which proudly proclaimed, “Hall Street Bridge Lately Built by the City of Dallas.” The article noted that Hall Street experienced heavy traffic and was especially dangerous due to an upgrade from both directions. The new bridge was a much-needed safety improvement and came with a price tag of $4,700—a significant investment at the time.

Graffiti Be Gone: A Neighbor Steps Up in Style!

TAs we shared previously, TCA—through our dedicated vendors and city partners—successfully cleared the ravine between Park Bridge Court and the Fairmount Bridge, removing dense brush and debris to reveal a beautiful, once-hidden stretch of Turtle Creek. But the transformation didn’t stop there.

In a shining example of community pride, neighbor Kevin Pauza decided to roll up his sleeves—literally—and take matters into his own hands. Without fanfare, Kevin painted over the graffiti-covered dam wall, turning an eyesore into a seamless part of the landscape. The results? Stunning!

TCA in the news

Several bridges in the Turtle Creek neighborhood are soon to get a facelift, thanks to a public-private initiative that seeks to enhance the corridor and better connect the community.

The city of Dallas along with Turtle Creek Association and Turtle Creek Conservancy are investing about half a million dollars to restore neglected bridges in the lush Turtle Creek corridor, which is just a stone’s throw away from Oak Lawn and Uptown. The area boasts many luxury apartment towers and is home to the historic Rosewood Mansion.
